Talented Beyond Belief

Being in the music industry for as long as I have, it truly takes a lot to blow me away; Kate Voegle is one of the few that I will admit has truly blown me away with her talent. There is NO reason on Earth why this 20 year old phenomenon is not being played on the radio - she is absolutley amazing!  (Tracy Forsyth - Lundy)

Score “One” for Kate Voegele

A young singer/songwriter is relegated to a background role in a band led by an abrasive star who has alienated his record label. One day, a label staffer hears the young singer playing one of her own songs. Wheels turn; the label drops the difficult bandleader and signs the young singer.

That’s a plotline coming on CW’s One Tree Hill in January. A couple of twists: The singer is played by real- life recording artist Kate Voegele ( VO-gull ), who’ll sing songs from her debut album Don’t Look Away, released in May on Myspace Records (a website spin-off). The bandleader is played by Britney Spears ex Kevin Federline.

The Mia role is Voegele’s first acting gig, and some aspects of the character proved challenging. “At the beginning, Mai is quiet, nervous and very shy,” she says, “and people were wondering, “How’s this chick going to play this character?” But I was that girl once. Plus it was my first time on a TV set, so I tried to psych myself out.” She’ll perform five or six songs during the course of the season. “It’s a great way to get the music out to people – it’s the perfect audience,” she says.

So how did Federline handle playing a jerk? “He did a great job. He seemed really friendly and professional.” ( Ken Barnes)

Miami Student Poised to be Next Hit- Maker

OXFORD, Ohio -- She frets about her grades, spends hours networking sites online and passes time hanging out with friends on campus. But semblances of normal college life are coming to a halt for Kate Voegele, a Miami University sophomore. The singer-songwriter's music career is heating up, with a national release for her first full-length album set in three weeks and a summer of concert dates scheduled from Los Angeles to New York. Voegele has been performing for four years. After two years in college that have included the study of music and plenty of practice performing in Oxford's bars, she's ready to see how far she can go. Good Times Magazine - June 19 - July 2, 2007

Wow. From the first glace of this gorgeous Ohio newcomer’s debut fulllength, a serous music fan might want to dismiss 20-year-old Kate Voegele without even listening to the disc: Hmm, she’s hot - probably another Britney clone, which means shitty music. MySpace? Where are the mirror photos? Sounds like the kind of label you get signed to by sending in cereal box tops.

Well, not one of those fears is even close to being true. The still-in-college Voegele is a true, real rocker - there are photos of her holding a Fender Telecsaster, amazingly - with a learned pop sensibility and a much harder edge than one might expect. There’s even aB3 organ on this record! Think Sheryl Crow, but with much more grit and fire.

The folks at MySpace Records surrounded Voegele with several session stars, including producer Marshall Altman, drummer Aaron Sterling, and guitarist Dino Meneghin (who both worked with Liz Phair). Thankfully, this is one of the few albums that wasn’t ruined by pop music’s knob-twisting sonic sadist - engineer Niko Bolas, who in the past has butchered otherwise fine work by Crosby, Stills, Nash, & Young and John Hiatt. Despite Bolas’ presence, Voegele manages to end up with an album that’s a surprisingly personal statement. Call her the anti-Joss Stone.

Ms. Voegele is a feast for the eyes, but not for a moment does she ever become a pop tart. “Top Of The World” is the most somber thwarted love song ever to receive such a title. “Chicago” is a rocking, haunting album opener that grabs with a sterling hook and is both sexy and serious. The set closer, “Kindly Unspoken,” is the only misfire here; the old “piano and vocal only trick” has only been used 500 times so far this year by the Nickelbacks and Trains of the world, who obviously don’t realize the device was once used by Perry Como. However, contrast the strident final song with such worthy cuts as “It’s Only Life” and “One Way Or Another” (thankfully not the Blondie chestnut) and the entire package heads for the finish line and scores the upset victory of the year.

Kate Voegele is already a finer artist than Avril Lavigne, Stone, and Tori Amos rolled into one. Given the state of American pop music, here’s hoping this stunning and talented real musician gets a fighting chance. Don’t Look Away? Don’t even try to. - (Syl Nathan)

All AGES ZINE

Rock based music that is solid and good throughout a whole album is very difficult to find these days. So many bands and artists try to get experimental and get themselves away from the pop/rock influences that they do best. This isn't the case with Kate Voegele. She sucks you into her new album "Don't Look Away" with the very catchy bouncy opening track "Chicago" and quickly will remind you of Josie and The Pussycats (movie version) with her poppy influence and spunky delivery in the vocals. From here the album just keeps on going the way it started. You will instantly find yourself tapping along with the first couple of songs and by the time she hits the mid portion of the album with "Might Have Been" you will be on your feet jumping along with Voegele. This is a perfect album, from the layout of the tracks to the vocals to the bouncy guitars and thumping bass lines that will force you to move. Voegele is going to be a star as long as they give her a chance to do so, so my advice to you is to stop whatever you are doing and get on board with Kate Voegele now because she is the next big thing. Kate Voegele- DON"T LOOK AWAY

Don’t Look Away, from Kate Voegele, is an album filled with girl power anthems about moving on and learning from the mistakes that come with the business of falling in love. Voegele’s vocals are so passionate that listeners can picture singing right along with her as their situation mirrors many of the scenarios Voegele croons about.

Kate Voegele’s Don’t Look Away, has songs that are perfect for girls who have been slashed to pieces by love and wish to express their indignation through song. Voegele’s zealous vocals signal to listeners she has gone through love’s trials and tribulations, and through hard work and perseverance, she has come out the other end scarred, but stronger. The Hill Will Be Rockin'

It's Voegele (pronounced as if spelled "Vogel") that may be drawing the most buzz this summer after releasing her debut CD in May "Don't Look Away," the first artist signed to the MySpace/Interscope label. She is the complete package - a writer, singer and guitarist. Voegele's angsty guitar driven pop is getting the comparisons to others in the girls-with-guitars genre from Sheryl Crow and Michelle Branch to Avril Lavigne.

...Voegele's songs are well-spun stories, tightly written and loaded with teenage angst, which is not surprising because of her age. There are uplifting themes of female empowerment and tales of insensitive guys couched in soaring power pop hooks with Voegele's seductive voice, rich beyond her years. (Richard Bird)
